Bride and grooms have come up with so many solutions on how to cut costs for their weddings.
With DIY projects, cheap decor, amazon ordered bridal gowns and countless other hacks couples have managed to celebrate for as little as $1,000.
My husband and I were not one of those people. Our wedding cost over $35,000.00 and yes we paid for it ourselves.
Paying for our own wedding allowed us to cut costs where we wanted and splurge on the things that were important to us.
Don’t worry you and your fiancé will realize what your priorities are as you move through the planning process.
Even though we had, what I believe to be, the average priced wedding we still tried to cut costs wherever possible.

Yes, we avoided limos, had a precise guest list and my wedding dress was $600.00, but there were some line items that we were super particular about.
1. Honeymoon Shower:
I can’t take credit for this one because this was all my maid of honors idea but we did not have a traditional bridal shower.
After being together for so many years you find that there is little need for so many material things.
Yes, it is nice to upgrade and get those expensive kitchen aid mixers but your shower can be better utilized.
Living a more minimalistic lifestyle I realize how silly getting all of those unnecessary items can be.
Instead of asking your guests for things let them help you with experiences.
If you are paying for your own wedding this is a game-changer.
It may even allow you to actually go on a honeymoon.
Having a honeymoon shower allowed my husband and I to get an almost full paid 8-day vacation to Aruba. Believe me, it was worth it.
2. 20 Person Bridal Party:
Having a smaller bridal party was just another way my husband and I cut costs.
There are going to be multiple times during your engagement that you the bride and groom will be spending money on your bridal party.
Most of the time they are spending money on you but I am here to remind you that you will also be spending money on them.
Our wedding parties consisted of only 4 people each.
I was able to do a bridesmaid proposal to all of them and gift them what I wanted for being a part of my wedding.
Gifts for all of those involved in a wedding can get extremely expensive.
3. $45 Piece of Cake
My husband and I luckily had a wedding venue that provided our dessert.
Now, this does not always happen but more times than not you will find places including things like centerpieces, card boxes, and even cake.
Our venue did not offer a cake but a full dessert of our choice.
We picked chocolate lava cake, which we still to this day hear about, but that meant we didn’t have a cake to cut.
Not only did we not have a cake to cut, but there was also no need for one.
We didn’t want to skip the tradition so we decided to order a cake from our favorite cake place…the Cheesecake factory
We bought a cake for $50 so we can have something to cut.
The best part we took the entire thing home!
4. Stationary:
This was something that surprised me when I began planning. Those save the dates that are now so essential were going to cost me an arm and a leg.
I checked all the up and coming stationery stores like minted and Shutterfly and I could not believe how much they were.
I wasn’t willing to pay a ton of money for something that someone was going to throw away!!!!
The only person keeping your invite is your mom and your grandma don’t waste your money.
We got ours off of vista print, by the way, I recommend you just do your research.
5. Favors:
Favors were so super traditional but are seen less and less.
My husband and I did not do favors and we didn’t think twice about it.
I can’t tell you how many weddings I have been to that I have thrown away my favor.
Candy and dessert bars have grown in popularity and the traditional favor is fallen to the wayside.
Our guests got to enjoy one of the coolest photo booths around and I have to say it was never empty.
This was not something on our initial want list but after going to a few weddings we realized it was an awesome and fun perk.
The best part they get to take the wedding memories home and we kept a copy of all of the ridiculous pictures they decided to take.
