These 5 topics will give you a head start on deciding what financial, personal, and educational goals to set for this year! Examples and inspiration for goal setting.
How is it possible that I teach and work in a goal-setting industry yet I have never sat down to make my own?
Honestly I never really sought out to do anything difficult.
I have a great job, I live a healthy lifestyle, I work out regularly, and have great relationships what more could I want?
Truthfully before this journey, I had never really felt the need for goals. I was comfortable, happy, healthy, and convinced I was doing great.
This financial journey changed all of that.
I realized if I wanted to change my habits with the money I needed to create new ones.
That’s when I started setting goals.
At first, they were kind of silly and nothing too serious but I had to start somewhere.
In the beginning, most of my goals were mainly financial.
My husband and I wanted a house so I set the goal to make more money, to save more, to spend less, and believe it or not, it worked.
This year I wanted my goals to be something I really thought about.
2019 is the year my husband and I have been waiting for.
In 2018 we became debt-free and in 2019 we would like to hit our major goal of owning a home.
I may not reach or complete all of my goals in the next 365 days but I am sure going to try.

In 2019 I have set 5 major goals not all of which are financial.
Goal 1:
My first goal is that I want to read 12 books this year.
I have seen this goal over and over again and I find it very empowering.
I have loved reading during my adult life and the reason I am making it a goal this year is because if I don’t it won’t become a priority.
Regardless of whether or not the average millionaire reads two books per month I see self-improvement in myself when I do. I think a lot of people do.
So far I have read the epic Girl Wash Your face as well as You are a Badass at Making Money.
My book for March is Everyday Millionaire by Chris Hogan and so far I am on par to reach my goal!
Goal 2:
Secondly, I wanted to pick something I felt like I needed to do.
The reason for this, it has been sitting on my conscience for too long of a time.
To admit that I haven’t been to the dentist in 7 years is quite embarrassing.
Maybe you have something you have been putting off too.
I’m not afraid of the dentist I just fell out of going regularly and found it annoying to make appointments.
Pure inconvenience is not a reason to not take care of my body.
I have been working out for years and eat a healthy diet, this is just another part of living a healthy lifestyle.
Making a goal based on something you have been putting off sometimes will be that push you need to accomplish it.
Goal 3:
Picking a goal based on something you enjoy is awesome too.
Maybe it’s a hobby or something you have been meaning to do that you love. I feel as though personal amusement is just as important.
This year I want to learn how to make homemade bread.
Why?
Because I want to.
I love to bake and I usually go for yummy desserts but I want to broaden my horizons.
I want to try something more difficult and out of my comfort zone.
Having a goal based on a hobby does not make it any less important.
Goal 4:
Our major financial goal as a couple this year is to buy a home.
The reason why we started this journey was to become financially stable enough to be homeowners.
We made savings goals, side hustle goals, and career goals.
Intending to purchase a home sometime in 2019, we also want to make sure we have our 20% down payment.
If this goal is pushed to the beginning of 2020 we won’t be upset.
Goal 5:
My 5th and final goal for 2019 was to start this blog.
To get uncomfortable and test me.
I wanted a push to do something different and admit that it would be hard.
Making a goal that makes you nervous is important. Doing something scary is ok.
This I have never done.
I started a Youtube channel to connect with others on a similar journey and failed miserably.
Three years later I want to write about finances and fitness.
I want to teach people about my experience and hope to encourage others.
Platforms such as blogs have helped me and now I want to start my own.
If there is something that you want to accomplish that is scary I applaud you.
It has taken me three years of goal writing to get to this point and in three more years I don’t know where these intentions will take me.
I work with people every day that come to me with a goal in mind. It wasn’t until I started my journey to financial freedom that I started writing goals for myself.
Once I thought about each year, every month, and what I wanted to accomplish I realized how important it is.
Setting intentions and goals gives you the ability to strive for something.
Some great Goal Topics to consider:
- Financial
- Career
- Recreational
- Spiritual
- Physical
- Educational
- Personal
- Relationship
Make sure to also consider how many goals you are trying to achieve.
Be realistic about how much time you have to put towards each.
What action steps you have to take and how much time it may take to get there.
Writing multiple goals can have a positive impact on your life but too many can become hard to manage.
What are your goals? I would love to hear what you are all working towards!
